The full name of Indra Nooyi is Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi and she belongs to Chennai, which is a South Indian city. She was born on 28th October 1955 in the city of Madras, which is now known as Chennai. She did her schooling from Holy Angels AIHSS, Chennai. After that she completed her graduation in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from Madras Christian College 1n 1974 and then Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Finance and Marketing) from Indian Institute of management, Calcutta in 1976.
After completing her post graduation, she was holding the post of Product Manager at Johnson and Johnson Company and a textile firm Beardsell in India .Then she joined Yale School of Management in 1978 and got masters degree in Public and Private Management. When she was studying at Yale she completed her internship with Booz and Company. She successfully completed her graduation and she worked for Boston Consulting Group and then held important positions at Motorola and Asea Brown Boveri.
She joined PepsiCo in the year 1994 and was raised to the position of President and CFO in 2001.For more than a decade the company’s global strategies were decided under Nooyis leadership and these included some major acquisitions and mergers. She led the acquisition of Tropicana brand in 1998 and the merger with Quaker Oats Company. As per the survey conducted by Business Week, the annual revenue of the company has raised by 72% since her reign as CFO in the year 2000.The net profit also doubled to $5.6 billion in 2006.On August 14th 2006 Nooyi was selected as the successor to Steven Reinemund as the CEO of the company, effective from October 1, 2006.On February 5, 2007, she was declared the chairman of the board, effective from May 2, 2007.
In 2009,Nooyi was voted as one of the ‘Top Gun CEOs’ by Brendan Wood International, an advisory agency. In 2010 she was ranked #1 in the list of “50 most powerful women “by Fortune and #6 in Forbes list of ‘Worlds 100 most powerful women’. She is the recipient of Padma Bhushan (civilian honour) award by Government of India in the year 2007.She got a fellowship from American Academy of Arts and Science in the year 2008.In the same year she was elected as chair person for the US India British Council. She was voted as one of Americas Best Leaders by US news and World report.
She is married to Mr Rajkantilal Nooyi and has 2 daughters. Nooyi is well known for her quick decision making ability. If she gets an idea, she works until it is achieved. Her rigidness and go getting attitude has helped the company in reaching its current position.
