How Is Google’s New Change Going to Affect You?

No Comments | Posted in: Google on April 1, 2011

Google announced that it is changing the way its search results are listed just around a week and a half ago. Since then however people have been rustling around to find out how that change will affect them since that change hasn’t gone international yet. Those with websites within the United States are feeling the effects of this change already.

So what has been changed?

According to what Google said about its change, it’s apparent that Google is increasing its focus on presenting high quality search results to people using its services rather than trashy websites aimed at just pulling in traffic to collect ad revenue. According to Google’s official news release the algorithm change will and should affect around 11.8% of its queries. They are touting it as an algorithm improvement but is it really something you should be exited / worried about?

Yes you definitely need to worry if you are the owner of a low quality site or a site which Google terms as ‘low quality’. However on the flip side of things websites that provide high quality content, content which people find useful and want to bookmark, digg, revisit and tell their friends about will begin to rank higher.

A New SEO Approach

One implication of this is that it will change everything that SEO specialists do to rank high in Google. Just submitting a few rewritten / spun articles to hundreds of article directories, open blogs, and forums is no longer going to do you much good and Google is going to make sure of that as soon as the changes go international. In order to attract Google’s attention and rank high you will need to provide people with content they find useful and love reading, keyword optimization is definitely going to play a part in rankings but odd sounding keywords and ones that sound spammy are going to just adversely affect your rankings.

What you should do?

If you haven’t been affected by Google’s latest algorithmic change yet then you will and so its time that you made a few moves to ensure your position rises instead of going the other way. Start posting quality content both to your blog and website and ensure that all link building efforts are relevant to what you are trying to achieve making sure that you are not spamming the search engine or trying to game it in any way to get better rankings.
